Think you have the perfect beard or mustache? Then enter your stache and beard in the Museum’s 6th Annual Beard & Mustache Competition beginning at 3:00 pm in the Museum Gallery on November 28th. In honor of No-Shave November, the Mark Twain Museum and the Schmidt & White Barbershop are cohosting the Beard & Mustache Competition which brings together mustaches of every shape, size, color and artistic flare. Categories in the 4th Annual Mustache Competition include: Moustache Categories: 1. The Dapper Stache – Full of character and artistic impression. If your stache is creative and full of originality, then this is the category for you. Styling aids are acceptable and encouraged, including the use of mustache /hair wax, hair spray, hair lacquer, hair gel and styling foam. 2. The Natural Stache – This category is all natural. No styling aids allowed. 3. The Mark Twain Stache – Bears a striking resemblance to Samuel Clemens’ famous witty mustache, referred to as the Walrus. It is bushy, and full, drooping over the mouth and also extending downward at each corner. Beard Categories: 1. Business Beard – This category is for shorter beards groomed by means of shaving and trimming. There must be an unbroken line of unshaven face from the temple to the chin to the other temple. Short, tight, and edged. 2. Full Beard Natural – Portions of the cheeks can be partially shaven as can the neck, but there must be an unbroken line of unshaven face from the temple to the chin to the other temple. Trimming is allowed but this category is for fuller, longer full beards that have been allowed to achieve their natural fullness and shape. 3. Freestyle – Anything goes. In this category the judges will be asked to determine which contestant’s facial hair is the most creative and artistic. Note: Competitors that do not fit into another category will be placed into Freestyle. A $5 entry fee and registration per category is required and winners of each receive a $50 Chamber Certificate and Beard Trim & Shave Certificates, sponsored by Schmidt & White Barbershop. In honor of No-Shave November, which strives to raise awareness of cancer by encouraging men to “put down those razors”, all proceeds from the Mustache Competition will be donated to the James E. Cary Cancer Center in Hannibal, MO.
